The Mayor of Tijuana Dr. Jorge Astiazarán and other Dignitaries attended a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony today, to formally open the new Bypass Road that connects ABC’s Plant with the main Highway linking Tijuana and the Border to the north, and Rosarito and the Port of Ensenada and beyond, to the south.
This road was until now an unpaved gravel track, very rough and uneven. Although used, and with difficulty, by heavy trucks, for example to deliver ABC’s heavy new presses, the track was wholly unsuitable for motor cars. Therefore, all employee bus and car traffic had to arrive and depart the plant by driving through the otherwise quiet residential neighborhood of Santa Fe.
ABC has always taken great care to minimize the plant’s industrial footprint upon the locality; for example, by ensuring a curfew, with all doors closed at 9:30PM, to minimize noise, if overnight manufacturing were to be necessary, which it increasingly has been. Screening of the factory with trees has also been introduced, and the landscaping to beautify the 80 plus acre site continues. Even though the plant was present many years before housing was developed. This new road is in keeping with ABC’s objective of being as inconspicuous a neighbor and presence as possible, and a positive influence wherever there is an opportunity.
The cost for making the properly paved road possible was a joint venture between the City of Tijuana and ABC Aluminum. ABC contributed a significant sum and the City lent full support as well.

This bypass will make a substantial improvement to the quality of life for everyone living in our local community of Santa Fe, and we are very pleased that at last this vision has come to fruition.
