It may not be well known outside Mexico, but Tijuana, Baja California, is one of Mexico’s leading research and manufacturing hubs for the country’s Aerospace Industry, another being Queretaro where until recently Bombardier’s state-of-the-art Learjet 85 has been built.

Industrializing nations like Brazil and China get a lot of attention for their thriving aerospace sectors. However, Mexico’s aerospace industry, too, has grown significantly over the past few years, but with a lot less world notice. Hence Aero Expo; designed to promote, educate and inform – both Tijuana and the country, as well as visiting domestic and international companies.

More than 260 aerospace companies now operate in Mexico, exporting in-excess- of some $4.3 billion in aircraft and parts. The Mexican government has set a target of $12 billion in such exports by 2020, a figure that would surpass aerospace exports from Brazil and Spain.

In addition, major clusters of aerospace companies have settled in the Tijuana-Mexicali corridor along the U.S. border, and in the city of Chihuahua in northwest Mexico. Smaller clusters have formed in Monterrey in the northeast and in the port city of Guaymas on the Gulf of California in Sonora state.

This will be the second Expo and Forum to be held in Tijuana, taking place on November 15th – 16th at the recently completed Baja California Center, just south of the city.

As previously, there will be a Guest Country featured, and this year it will be the United States. The U.S. Commercial Service is closely involved. Sponsors other than ABC, who will also have a booth, include BMW, various chambers of commerce and government entities, MX Space, the Baja Aerospace Cluster and some 25 others.

The conference will bring together the most influential business and political leaders in the Mexican aerospace industry in addition to those from the U.S. There will be 30-plus world-class speakers and over 60 exhibition spaces. The scale of this event reflects the importance of Tijuana as a center for the industry, and the priority being attached to furthering growth and economic activity within the sector; also, there will be emphasis given to commercial co-operation and partnering even, between Mexico and the United States.
